The History of Alpina

Alpina ski boots originated in Slovenia, in the small shoemaker town of Žiri. In 1947, local shoemakers gathered and created what became known as the "Žiri Shoe Factory." Later, in 1951, the name was changed to what we now know as Alpina.

Since then, they have maintained the proud tradition, with production focused on craftsmanship and the shoemaking profession.

Initially, alpine boots were the main focus of production, but in 1973, Alpina produced its first cross-country ski boot. However, it took a few years before the ski boots reached beyond Slovenia's borders. In 1980, Alpina made its first entry into the Norwegian market.

It was only then that the development and production of Alpina ski boots gained momentum. Knowledge of the shoemaking craft, combined with a strong desire to continuously improve the ski boots, allowed Alpina to create boots according to Norwegian standards. It became quite natural to look to the cross-country skiing-focused country of Norway for boot development, and through close cooperation over many years, Alpina has successfully created boots for all types of skiers for nearly 50 years.

In recent years, Alpina has been closely associated with the world’s best cross-country skiers. Before the World Championship on home soil in 2011, Alpina worked closely with Norwegian athletes to develop the best competition boot on the market.

But it is versatility and quality that make the Norwegian people swear by Alpina again and again. Alpina offers boots for everyone, whether you are a beginner, skiing off-track, looking to go long or short distances, or aiming for the top of the world.

In 2020, Alpina changed over 60% of its models to PVC-free, more climate-friendly products, as part of a long-term strategy for more sustainable production.
